3D Fair Weather Privacy Policy
3D Fair Weather is a live 3D weather broadcast of the place you live, for iPad, Apple TV, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and we, the developer, run no servers. We do not collect, receive, store or sell any information about you.
To show the weather and the ground around you, the app asks public weather and map services for them directly from your device. Those requests have to say where, so they carry an approximate location. This policy lists every service the app contacts and what each one receives.
Your location
If you allow it, 3D Fair Weather uses Location Services, only while the app is open, to find your general area. It asks for approximate location only and never for precise location. You can choose a place with Search instead and turn Location Services off for the app at any time in your device's Settings.
What leaves your device
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit): the location of your chosen place and of the places the broadcast shows, for current conditions, forecasts and weather alerts.
- Apple Maps (MapKit): the areas the broadcast shows, for map imagery, place names and nearby points of interest. What you type into Search goes to Apple Maps to find the place.
- National Weather Service (NOAA, a US government agency), in the United States only: when there is a weather alert, your location rounded to about a kilometre, to get the alert's full text. For the radar, rain and wind maps, the edges of the area the map shows, several hundred kilometres across.
- Aviation Weather Center (NOAA): a small area around a nearby airport the broadcast shows, to get that airport's weather reports. This is the airport's position, not yours.
- Amazon Web Services (Terrain Tiles, in the Registry of Open Data on AWS): the numbers of the elevation tiles that cover the ground being drawn. Each tile is a square of ground about 100 kilometres or more across.
As with any connection to a website, each of these services also sees your device's IP address. The app identifies itself to the weather services by its name and this website's address. It sends no name, account, advertising identifier or other identifier of yours or your device's. Each service handles requests under its own privacy policy: Apple, National Weather Service and Amazon Web Services.
What stays on your device
- Your home, recent places and favorites. A place found through Apple Maps is kept only as Apple Maps' identifier for it, or as the search result you chose, and is looked up again when needed.
- The elevation data downloaded for the ground, kept so it isn't downloaded again.
- On iPad, the latest weather reading for the Home Screen widget, kept only while a widget is on your Home Screen and deleted after six hours.
- Your settings, and whether you have agreed to the terms of use.
Alert summaries and the spoken briefing are written on your device by Apple Intelligence, where it is available, and read aloud by your device's own voice. Nothing about them leaves your device.
Removing your data
You can remove recent places and favorites in Search. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your device.
Apple
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may give us crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you. Apple's privacy policy covers how Apple handles that data, TestFlight feedback and App Store purchases.
Children
3D Fair Weather collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
